Points of Interest — Field Reference

Department menu → Import & Migration → (workspace) → Files & data sets

Two data sets put places on your map: Point of interest types (Hydrants, Hospitals, Schools …, each with a marker colour and whether it can be a status destination) and Points of interest (each place with its type and location). Types come first, or in the same import. GeoJSON files work well here: a point's coordinates become the latitude and longitude columns automatically.

Preview feature

Import & Migration is a Preview feature: it is off by default and Resgrid turns it on per department while it is being rolled out.

## Where to find it

Fill in the Point of interest types and Points of interest sheets of the starter workbook (or resgrid-poi-types.csv and resgrid-pois.csv), or upload a spreadsheet or GeoJSON export and match it on the matching page. Download current data exports your existing point of interest types.

## Turning it on

Besides Import & Migration itself (the Onboarding.MigrationWizard flag and a department administrator), both data sets need the Mapping module switched on under Department Settings → Module Settings. Without it the data sets are blocked (This data needs a feature your department hasn't turned on). See Overview → Turning it on.

## Point of interest types sheet

## How places are matched
  • Point of interest types are matched by Source ID (same workspace, or the import it continues), otherwise by name, ignoring case, accents, spaces and punctuation. New types get the standard map pin marker.
  • Points of interest are matched by Source ID (same workspace, or the import it continues), otherwise by name and exact position together: the same name at the same latitude and longitude is the same place. A place that moved, or two places with one name, are separate records.

More rules:

  • Type is required and refers to a point of interest type by name — a row in your types file or an existing type. Unknown types can be created new on the value matching page.
  • Latitude and Longitude are required, in decimal degrees. Addresses are never looked up during an import; the Address column is shown with the place as text.
  • From GeoJSON, each feature's properties become columns (nested properties as parent.child), and a Point geometry becomes latitude and longitude.
  • Rolling back deletes imported places and types; a type that places still use (including ones added since) is kept for you to check.
